Becoming a foster carer

There's no such thing as a perfect foster carer.

If you're happy having children around, don’t give up straight away and have a good sense of humour, you could be a great foster carer.

Get started

Before:

Becoming a foster carer

This stage is about finding out if fostering is for you. We work with partner Local Authorities to support you every step of the way, ensuring you feel confident and well prepared. The overall process can take 4-6 months.

  1. Step 1: Intro Chat (30 min)

A short virtual chat to ask us about weekend fostering.

  2. Step 2: Home visit (2 hours)

    A conversation about your circumstances.

  3. Step 3: Train and apply (12 weeks)

Get the paperwork done and train to become a foster carer.

  4. Step 4: Approval panel (1 day)

A panel to decide if you can become a foster carer.

During:

Taking care of a child

If you are at this stage you have been approved as a foster carer. That's great! We have a great support model to help you with your first placement.

Our model includes:

  • Wrap around support to help you get things right at the start of your journey

  • Being part of a local network of foster carers who support each other

  • Additional training and learning to improve your skills over time
